Day 3 - Ericeira Day to Obidos

We left Ericeira after breakfast and cycled along the coastb with the Atlantic wind from the left.

The natural reserve extends all the way from Ericeira to Peniche wild beaches, surfers paradise. We stoped in Peniche for a coffee and a bite and took the opportunity to see the north beach.

Peniche is probably the most inaccessible by bike place we found in the whole of Portugal, is situated in a peninsula with beaches both sides and a highway who takes you in and get out of town. Heavy traffic bad signage and lots of traffic, after crossing several really busy roads, mix of holiday makers and lorries. After a hour of going around trying to find a way into the town  we decided to leave without visiting the beautiful centre of the town.

We left Penishe and the traffic started to fade as we went inland, we arrived into Obidos late in the afternoon, from the distance you could see a little medieval hill town surrounded by walls, to our surprise and enjoyment it was the first day of the mediaeval festival. We dropped bicycles and panniers at the hotel and joined the crowds that were dressing up in mediaeval costumes to travel back in time and enjoy mediaeval feast, dance and delicious "gringas" served in little chocolate cups that you eat after you drink the liquor.
It was a shame to give back the costumes as we were already in character.
